7 Tips To Cure Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Syndrome)

My heart breaks for soldiers in particular, but for people in all walks of who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  I'm not a doctor and I'm not a psychiatrist, but understand a little about what you are going through because I do have the Spirit of God in me which gives me two things:  Wisdom and Compassion. 

Wisdom tells me that people suffering from PTSD can't sleep at night, usually have some sort of depression, self rejection and quite often unforgiveness.  Compassion tells me that I want to help and am quite capable of offering suggestions.  So let's get started. 

#1.  Accept God's Love for you!  Think, I mean really meditate on this verse:  "There is no fear in love; but perfect love cast out fear"  1 John 4:18  Until you truly accept His perfect love for you, there will always be fear!  But his perfect love can cast out all fear in a persons life after we accept the full reality of it and realize that he loves us the way we are TODAY!

#2.  Stop rejection yourself!  God Does not make Junk - Ever.  You are a creation of the Most High God - Maker of Heaven and Earth!  God took nine months forming you and only 6 days to make the heavens and the earth!  "..............you knit me together in my mother's womb"  Psalm 139:13  John 3:16 says God sent his only son to die in our place because He loves us so much.  Romans 8:38-39 says this: 
 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

#3.  Forgive yourself!  This is one of the most difficult steps to take for some people suffering from PTSD, but it MUST be done.  Listen, everyone else has forgiven you, why can't you?  Are you better than the mother or father of the soldier you watched die in your arms?  Did they forgive you?  Most likely they did!  Who are you that you are better than all those people and have so much pride that you won't forgive yourself?  Think about it......

#4.  Use more of God's creation:  Get a pet dog or horse.  Some animal you know will care about you and one that you must look after.  They are not called man's best friend for no reason.  It's not a cure but it can help tons!

#5.  Think on things that are true!  Listen to this: "..............The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you"  Philippians 4:5-9.  Notice the "peace" of God mentioned.  But we must first put into practice the verses - meditate on things that are "true, lovely, excellent, praiseworthy, admirable" 

#6.  Help others.  Look at this verse closely:  "Don't be deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap"  Galatians 6:7  What is really going to bless your life and help you get through your PTSD is when you 100% make up your mind you are going to bless other people.  There are elderly neighbors you might have.  There are nursing homes you can visit in your area.  There are churches that accept volunteers.  Some hospitals accept volunteers.  If you know a family is sick or lost a loved one they might need you to take them a meal.  Your neighbor might need groceries.  Do you have a pastor who
is a man of God?  Then go fill his AND his staffs tank of gas. 

 When you begin to take the focus off of you, and really get it where it is supposed to be, that is when miracles begin to happen your life.  Try it.........God Can NOT be mocked!  If you sow blessings into peoples lives, you will reap blessings into your life!

#7.  Face the images and event that led to your PTSD and cast down every imagination that brings fear, self doubt, self rejection, self hatred, self unforgiveness, suicidal thoughts and any other thought that is negative, painful and exalts itself against the most High God. 

A. You need to go back to that painful time in your mind.
B.  Ask yourself and more importantly ask Jesus to reveal to you the truth about what is so painful in your life because of that event.  Now be honest!
C.  When you find the truth, then you can deal with it and be healed.  Because the Bible says this:  "you will know the truth and the truth will set you free"  John 8:32  Let me give you an example:  Let's say you are a soldier and your friend died in your arms in another country.  When you visit that painful time you might have a million things running through your head, but first you might be saying to yourself "It's my fault, I should have done more" (unforgiveness of self)  or "That should have been me that died"  (self-hatred and self-rejection).  
D.  Once you understand and EXPOSE the truth of the pain - you got the thoughts and the Devil cornered with no place to hide.  Then you can deal with it.  But if you don't know what you are dealing with, you can't attack it right? 

So how do you deal with the thoughts?  I'm going to give you some references to help with that question that I want you to look at and it won't take you long!!

ENCOURAGEMENT IN THE MIDDLE OF HARD TIMES

Being a Christian is tough and we know we’ll have troubles, but you don't need to face these troubles alone.

Use the imagination God gave you.   God gave you an imagination.  Picture Jesus right next to you.  Why?  Because you are supposed to - think on lovely things and things that are TRUE is Jesus next to you?   Yes!!  And it’s that truth that can set you free.

    'I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.' (John 17:15)

God is always there for you even when you feel far from Him and can't feel his presence.

    'Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.' (Psalm 139:7-10)

God is there for you. He hears your prayers and Jesus promised that He is always with us ... 'And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.' (Matthew 28:20).


It’s not a matter of IF we will have trials, but WHEN.

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything

Troubles Will Come - Life on earth is tough...... full of struggles and difficult times. Jesus knows the troubles we face as He told his disciples ...

    'In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.' (John 16:33)

Tough minded, never give up! NEVER GIVE UP!,  Be tough minded.   But that is from a human perspective. 

1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:10, 11

#1   Did you know that Moses was so discouraged, tired and burdened that he asked God to kill him??

Read Numbers 11

11 Soon the people began to complain about their hardship, and the Lord heard everything they said. Then the Lord’s anger blazed against them, and he sent a fire to rage among them, and he destroyed some of the people in the outskirts of the camp. 2 Then the people screamed to Moses for help, and when he prayed to the Lord, the fire stopped. 3 After that, the area was known as Taberah (which means “the place of burning”), because fire from the Lord had burned among them there.

4 Then the foreign rabble (foreigners, trouble makers) who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed. 5 “We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. 6 But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!”

7 The manna looked like small coriander seeds, and it was pale yellow like gum resin. 8 The people would go out and gather it from the ground. They made flour by grinding it with hand mills or pounding it in mortars. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into flat cakes. These cakes tasted like pastries baked with olive oil. 9 The manna came down on the camp with the dew during the night.

10 Moses heard all the families standing in the doorways of their tents whining, and the Lord became extremely angry. Moses was also very aggravated. 11 And Moses said to the Lord, “Why are you treating me, your servant, so harshly? Have mercy on me! What did I do to deserve the burden of all these people? 12 Did I give birth to them? Did I bring them into the world? Why did you tell me to carry them in my arms like a mother carries a nursing baby? How can I carry them to the land you swore to give their ancestors? 13 Where am I supposed to get meat for all these people? They keep whining to me, saying, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14 I can’t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy! 15 If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery!”


16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Gather before me seventy men who are recognized as elders and leaders of Israel. Bring them to the Tabernacle[a] to stand there with you. 17 I will come down and talk to you there. I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you, and I will put the Spirit upon them also. They will bear the burden of the people along with you, so you will not have to carry it alone.

18 “And say to the people, ‘Purify yourselves, for tomorrow you will have meat to eat. You were whining, and the Lord heard you when you cried, “Oh, for some meat! We were better off in Egypt!” Now the Lord will give you meat, and you will have to eat it. 19 And it won’t be for just a day or two, or for five or ten or even twenty. 20 You will eat it for a whole month until you gag and are sick of it. (another version says this:  until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it)For you have rejected the Lord, who is here among you, and you have whined to him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’” 

God told Moses to tell the people all this

21 But Moses responded to the Lord, “There are 600,000 foot soldiers here with me, and yet you say, ‘I will give them meat for a whole month!’ 22 Even if we butchered all our flocks and herds, would that satisfy them? Even if we caught all the fish in the sea, would that be enough?”

Here is a distraught man right now....struggling with faith and weakness and so much more.  Kari Jobe          But Moses did not give up!

23 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Has my arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!”

Notice God did not get mad!

24 So Moses went out and reported the Lord’s words to the people. He gathered the seventy elders and stationed them around the Tabernacle.[b] 25 And the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Then he gave the seventy elders the same Spirit that was upon Moses. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But this never happened again.

26 Two men, Eldad and Medad, had stayed behind in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but they had not gone out to the Tabernacle. Yet the Spirit rested upon them as well, so they prophesied there in the camp. 27 A young man ran and reported to Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!”

28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ assistant since his youth, protested, “Moses, my master, make them stop!”

29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them all!” 30 Then Moses returned to the camp with the elders of Israel.

V. 29....now THAT is a man of God............let them increase so I may decrease.  He was’nt Jealous.  No jealousy of others gifts, talents, power.  Just keep things in order.


31 Now the Lord sent a wind that brought quail from the sea and let them fall all around the camp. For miles in every direction there were quail flying about three feet above the ground.[c] 32 So the people went out and caught quail all that day and throughout the night and all the next day, too. No one gathered less than fifty bushels[d]! They spread the quail all around the camp to dry. 33 But while they were gorging themselves on the meat—while it was still in their mouths—the anger of the Lord blazed against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague. 34 So that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah (which means “graves of gluttony”) because there they buried the people who had craved meat from Egypt. 35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the Israelites traveled to Hazeroth, where they stayed for some time.
